Geography:
petite grotte réduite à deux salles, ouvertes au sud au bas d'une petite falaise, sur la rive gauche d'un affluent de la Beune de Puymartin.

Proximity:

 Plus en aval se trouve une grotte sous le château du Roc(h), avec laquelle elle a parfois été confondue. Un gisement aurignacien et périgordien ancien a été localisé à proximité (Pas-Estret), ainsi que le gisement moustérien du Roc.

Geology:
calcaire coniacien

Surface:
concrétionnement abondant, non actif

L'entrée de la grotte présente une gravure de cheval incomplet surmontant un signe en croix, faiblement éclairés par la lumière naturelle ; d'autres figures (têtes d'équidés et bovidés) repérées par D. Peyrony, n'ont pu être confirmées par B. et G. Delluc. Le plafond porte des traces naturelles rouges.

Intervention:
Figure découverte par le fils Peyrille en 1913 (d'après Breuil). La confusion entretenue avec la grotte sous le château du Roc a fait dire que cette découverte avait eu lieu en 1922 ou 1949. Relevé du cheval par B. et G. Delluc ; moulage en plâtre réalisé en 1913.

EuroPreArt, European Prehistoric Art, is a web-based archaeological project funded by the European Union which aims to establish a lasting data-base of European prehistoric art documentation, to launch the base of an European institutional network and to contribute to the awareness of the diversity and richness of European Prehistoric Art.
