Geography:
Margem direita do rio Codes a cerca de 7 km da sua confluência com o rio Zêzere. O vale do Codes é apertado, com gargantas e desfiladeiros. A vegetação é composta por densos matagais, onde em áreas de menor declive se descobrem alguns pinhais. É uma zona pouco antropizada devido à pobreza dos solos e aos obtáculos impostos pela geografia acidentada

Geology:

Enorme laje de xisto com forma sub-trapezóidal, de cor avermelhada

Surface:

Patine castanha escura a cinzenta, quase negra. A laje encontra-se parcialmente amputada. A superfície decorada encontra-se parcialmente regularizada. Pode-se observar em algumas áres pequenos negativos onde se pode observar os negativos da bojardagem, como do subsequente polimento a que foi sujeita a rocha.

Longa gravura sepentiforme, cuja extremidade distal, com cabeça losangular, lhe confere aspecto naturalista. A gravação que enforma esta representação oferece aspecto de sulco, irregular, com perfíl em U ou, mais raramente, em V, mostrando larguras que variam entre 0,020 m e 0,060, assim como profundidades que oscilam de 0,015 m a 0,030 m. Supõe-se que o instrumento utilizado na realização desta gravura seja metálico, talvez mesmo de ferro.

Os indices técnicos observados na gravação, indicam-nos grandes contornos cronológicos, da idade do Bronze aos finais da idade do Ferro, já que não se reconhecem manifestações simmilares em periodos ulteriores.

Notes:

Há uma lenda local que conta que uma jovem pastora ali viu uma moura a alisar os cabelos, com um pente de ouro, esta pediu-lho, mas em troca a moura quis lamber-lhe o céu da boca, para a converter à sua fé. A moura transforma-se em serpente para mais facilmente entrar na boca da rapariga, esta assustou-se e fugiu, a serpente sem ter realizado os seus ententos , de modo a quebrar o encanto em que se encontrava, desapareceu sob as rochas deixando o longo rasto que ainda hoje se vê. No miradouro de Pedra Furada encontramos paneis de azulejos com referencia à "Bicha Pintada": "Resa a lenda de Bufareira: Entre este Penedo Furado e a Bicha Pintada Está lindo bezerro dourado." "O tesouro no maior segredo, Está em gruta bem guardado Só o dará a amar sem medo Sua linda moira encantada."
