Geography:
L'entrée principale est ouverte à l'ouest sur un versant boisé de la rive droite du Lot.

Proximity:

 La grotte se trouve à proximité de la confluence du Lot et du Célé. Les grottes ornées des Faux-monnayeurs et Christian se trouvent à respectivement 200 et 300 m. La grotte du Pech-Merle se trouve à proximité.

La grotte est un labyrinthe complexe de boyaux répartis sur trois niveaux, sur une longueur totale de 200 m. Cinq entrées ont pu être utilisées au Paléolithique, dont l'une est actuellement colmatée. La décoration pariétale comprend plusieurs panneaux, portant des représentations de caprinés, cheval, cervidés et bovidés, peints ou gravés et de petites dimensions, associés à des signes et des traces colorées.

Chronology:

La plupart des figures peuvent se rattacher au Style III de Leroi-Gourhan. Un petit bouquetin incisé serait plutôt du style IV. Sous un bloc a été mis au jour un crâne humain d'âge indéterminé.

Ruissellements et humidité endommagent les peintures. Les gravures par contre sont très bien conservées.

Intervention:
Les premières figures sont découvertes en 1969 par Robert Carriot, et décrites par J. Clottes la même année, puis par R. Simonnet en 1971. Les relevés et l'étude détaillée sont exécutés par M. Lorblanchet.
