Geography: |
Carving zone of Cheles is located between Molino Manzanez area (Manzanez Mill) to Friegamuñoz Stream through the left bank of the river Guadiana. This area is affected by seasonal floodings of the river. Characteristic vegatation is mediterranean meadow. Traditional use of the land it's been the shepherding, the hunt and the fishing. |

We arrive to the riverside where the engravings are located throught a path who runs 4 kms. from Cheles -which is the nearest locality to the rupestrian group- to the Guadiana. In the riverside we find a mill named " Molino de Manzánez" which is a common public area. Far from the mill to the South about 1 km, there is located this rock with engravings wich is easily flooded in winter's river course. |

The rock presents a general orientation of 320º N and surface is broken because of a fissure that crosses the panel among others. Red coloured and smooth for water poolishment. |

In this panel they have used the technique of the percussion. In the superior part we can see a kind of oval whose major diameter measures 13 cm. long and the minor one it measures 10 cm. Below it there is a sort o rectangular shaped ideomorphic figure whose left side is broken due to a fissure, but it is possible to follow the rake of the engraving for the fissure. This rectangle measures 22 cm. long and 9 cm. wide. To the right of him there are pecked remains and a circle whose diameter measures 8 cm. long. In the left inferior angle there is a circle whose diameter measures 5 cm. long, and in the inferior part there are also another circle and the diameter 17 cm. long. In the left part of this one it is possible to see a schematic anthropomorph of 22 cm. tall with the arms and with the open legs. The arms are 17 cm. long. In the inferior part of the great circle there are pecked remains and loose bows. To the left of the the anthropomorph's head there is a curved line 14 cm. long. To the left of the crack in the superior part there are pecked remains and also an horizontal line 11 cm. long. In the inferior part of the panel there is a big circle (diameter 27 cm. long) with a schematic anthropomorph inside; it has open arms and it is possible to see its head and legs. It measures 14 cm. tall and 14 cm. max. wide. The circle has an appendix in its inferior part but it is broken because of a crack. To the left of the circle there is a semicircle (diameter 3 cm. long). The rest of this panel is full with peckeds remains and loose bows.

Intervention: |
Guadiana Valley carvings have had three campaigns of field work along year 2001 -5 months- for the whole documentation of the 573 rocks found in the site. All records are now in proccess of study for at least 4 months, that will come to a joint exhaustive publication with the ones recorded in portuguese river side. There are also incoming works consisting in the reproduction of a number of rocks in plastic materials for forecoming studies and real reproduction if posible in the future. |
