Il complesso cavernicolo si apre sul fianco (versante occidentale) del monte Pellegrino, promontorio rilevante dal punto di vista paesaggistico che incombe sulla città separandone il golfo dalla baia di Mondello a nord.

Grotta dell'Addaura.

Il complesso delle grotte dell'Addaura, di cui fa parte la grotta Niscemi, è formato da più cavità.

Il gruppo più cospicuo di incisioni si trova sulla parete sinistra della grotta, a circa due metri dall'ingresso: su due registri sovrapposti si trovano tre bovidi e due equidi. Lo stile è naturalistico ed essenziale, esaltata la peculiarità anatomica, non vi è indugio sui particolari. Sulla parete sinistra vi sono altre tre raffigurazioni, consistenti in un cerbiatto in corsa, nella testa di un bovide e in un altro bovide di cui rimangono alcune linee di difficile interpretazione.

EuroPreArt, European Prehistoric Art, is a web-based archaeological project funded by the European Union which aims to establish a lasting data-base of European prehistoric art documentation, to launch the base of an European institutional network and to contribute to the awareness of the diversity and richness of European Prehistoric Art.
