L'abri et la grotte, distants de 10 m, sont ouverts au sud-sud-est sur la rive droite de l'Alzou.

Proximity:

L'abri est ouvert devant une source. Le confluent de l'Alzou et l'Ouysse se trouve à 1,5 km.

L'abri, long de 32 m, est constitué d'une falaise haute de 8 m et un surplomb de 4 à 5 m. Les gravures y sont très altérées. Parmi des raclages non figuratifs se distinguent un cheval acéphale et des traces d'ocre. La grotte, exigüe, est longue de 10 m. A deux mètres de l'entrée se trouvent des raclages rehaussés d'ocre.

Lors des fouilles, A. Lemozi a rattaché la décoration de la paroi à la couche "H" mise au jour dans l'abri, attribuée par M. Lorblanchet au Magdalénien final. Les raclages, similaires dans la grotte et l'abri, datent probablement de la même époque.

Dans l'abri, on constate une desquamation de la paroi, due au gel après son dégagement lors des fouilles de Lemozi; ceci a entraîné la disparition des gravures. La conservation est globalement meilleure dans la grotte.

Intervention:

L'abri est fouillé de 1913 à 1920 par A. Lemozi, qui remarque les gravures le 23 mai 1919. Une nouvelle campagne de fouilles est menée en 1938. M. Lorblanchet a repris les fouilles de l'abri en 1980. Pour éviter les dégâts du gel, un talus de terre a été élevé à 1,5 m de la paroi ornée.
