grotte ouverte au sud-est dans une falaise escarpée, dominant de 25 m la rive droite de la Dordogne.

Proximity:

L'abri Murat et les grottes ornées de Domme se situent à quelques km. La région est riche en sites magdaléniens.

La grotte est formée d'un boyau large de 2 à 6 m, haut de 2 à 10 m et long de 55 m. La décoration comprend quelques figures: un renne gravé sur une fissure naturelle, une main positive brun-rouge, trois empreintes de doigts brun-rouge et un court trait brun.

Par sa précision, la représentation de renne se rapproche de celles de Sainte-Eulalie, attribuées au Magdalénien moyen III. Les mains positives, phénomène rare, pourraient être plus anciennes.

Les figures sont protégées naturellement par l'accès difficile de la grotte et par leur faible lisibilité.

Intervention:

La grotte a été fouillée par A. Viré avant 1910 (couches protohistoriques, âges du Bronze et du Fer). Des sondages sont pratiquées en 1959 et 1960 par R. Léonard, qui remarque la présence de gravures et de traces d'ocre. L'identification des figures est confirmée en 1964 par M. Lorblanchet.
