Description:

Engravings   Paintings   Painted engravings   High or low-relief   Sculpture

Figures:
total number 4
Figuras zoomórficas (um equídeo e outras indefinidas).

Chronology:

Palaeolithic   Epipalaeolithic - Mesolithic   Neolithic   Copper Age   Bronze Age   Iron Age   Roman   Middle Age   Modern   Unknown

Notes:

Abstract: Back in 1981, a professor at the University of Porto, Susana Oliveira Jorge, was preplexed by an engraving in a photograph a student showed her. It was an engraving of a Palaeolithic style horse, showing signs of pecking and subsequent repeated abrasion- not in a dark cave, but in the open air, located in Mazouco, a small village in the council of Freixo de Espada-à-Cinta, that overlooks the Douro River and Spain. The inhabitants of Mazouco were well aware of the engraving, and they called the figure "o carneiro" (the sheep).
