Description:

Engravings   Paintings   Painted engravings   High or low-relief   Sculpture
Rock of the Warriors, in Capo di Ponte Municipality (BS-I), near the village of Pescarzo, locality name Dos del Merichì. Engravings executed by percussion and two figures by scratching. Horizontal surface. Shape subtriangular. Engravings are concentrated in all the rock (5,04m x 4m), oriented north-south/east-west, positioned near a cultivated area. Near the rock there are other surfaces with similar engravings of the same period. The surface is polished by the Pleistocene glacier. The engravings are especially of anthropomorphs with weapons but there are also some animals and cup marks. All the anthropomorphic figures are weaponed, so they are warriors, with spears, shields, helmets, daggers. The style of the anthropomorphs and of the weapons is very important for the chronology of the figures, with the superimpositions analysis and the comparison with the archaeological materials.

Figures:
total number 339
warriors, animals, cup marks.

Chronology:

Palaeolithic   Epipalaeolithic - Mesolithic   Neolithic   Copper Age   Bronze Age   Iron Age   Roman   Middle Age   Modern   Unknown
Phases IV1, IV2, IV3, IV4, IV5, of the Iron Age: VIII cent. BC - I cent. BC/AD
