Description:

Engravings   Paintings   Painted engravings   High or low-relief   Sculpture
In first place, we can see two horizontal zig-zags. One of them is 6,8 cm long, and the other one is 3 cm long. We can relate with the zig-zags a serie of mainly vertical lines. These graphite lines, in somecases superimposede to the zig-zag figures, are from 2 cm to 7cm long. And they get to the lower indeterminate figure. This is a big colour blost, 6.5 cm long-2.5 cm max, wide, and some spots close to its right upper part. Secondly, we can point out a composition executed with vertical direction. Up to down, on one hand, 10 lined up swallow-like ancor anthropomorphs. The better conserved figures are 0,6 cm high and 1,7 cm length. An horizontal ramifyed anthropomorph is placed below the latters. This figure is 3,6 cm long, with 17 branches maded by thin lines. These branches are 0,9 cm long. A star-shaped figure is placed below it. This figure has diameter of 1,3 cm and we can distinguish five appendixes placed radially. The same composition is placed lower down, but, in this case we can see only three swallow-like ancor anthropomorphs. On the other hand, we can see one more vertical composition, in this case with figures made with very thin lines (they are from 0,1 cm to 0,7 cm wide). In the upper part of this composition there are two ramifyed anthropomorphs. One of them has a appendix in its lower part. This appendix is a snaky figure and is 5 cm long. The other ramifyed has six branches and is 2,3 cm high. At the right side, we can see a small swallow-like ancor anthropomorph. An indeterminate figure is placed below these. Lower down, we can see a complex figure made from three ramifyed anthropomorphs placed above a kind of reticle. This reticle is dividided into eight spaces. This complex figure is 9 cm high and 7 cm long. Two lines of spots are placed below these. They have respectively eight and three elements. The spots are from 0,2 cm to 0,5 cm diameter. Finally, at the lower part of this composition, we can see another reticle, in this case is divided in six irregular spaces. Its outline is very winding. This reticle is 4,5 cm high and 6 cm length. All the shelter's figures are red.

Figures:
total number 55
2 Zig-zag, Phi-shaped, bar, blot, 14 swallow-like ancor anthropomorphs, star-shaped, indeterminate, spot, 2 indoors-structure shape(reticle), 6/7 ramifyed anthropomorphs.

Chronology:

Palaeolithic   Epipalaeolithic - Mesolithic   Neolithic   Copper Age   Bronze Age   Iron Age   Roman   Middle Age   Modern   Unknown
4.000-600 BC

Notes:

The Natural Park Area has been traditionaly used by shepherds. They followed all the water courses which cross the region, and they where the authors of many bonfires made inside the shelters. Now there are not shephers inside the Park, and people can´t visit many areas. The rock shelter was discovered during the prospection made by Colectivo Barbaón in 1998.

Conservation

Status:

Public   Private   Park   Classified site

Risk:

Antropical incidence, rock washed off by water and blackened by smoke.

Conservation:

Good   Quite good   Mediocre   Bad

Intervention:

Three recording campaigns (1997,98,99) have taken place at Monfragüe, covering most of its sierras and stream breachs, in order to record all schematic art sites. The works, not finished, had given a number over 100 shelters with art, and the record consist in digitalizated tracings, pictures and descriptions that are also being compiled in several unpublished volumes. Monfragüe is a Natural Park where no human intervention is nowadays allowed, neither the presence of people near most of the art sites. The latter means the art is strictly preserved of any anthropical action wether it is damage or conservation works.
